Yahoo! to Test Monetizing Their Search Results With Google AdWords Ads
From their press release:
Yahoo! Inc. a leading global Internet company, announced today that it will begin a limited test of Google Inc.'s AdSense for Search service, which will deliver relevant Google ads alongside Yahoo!'s own search results. The test will apply only to traffic from yahoo.com in the U.S. and will not include Yahoo!'s extended network of affiliate or premium publisher partners. The test is expected to last up to two weeks and will be limited to no more than 3% of Yahoo! search queries.
Anyone who syndicates Yahoo! ads or operates a business that relies on selling clicks has to be concerned with this news.

Google would have WAY too much marketshare in the search advertising industry. I don't think any long term deal would get approved, at least I hope not. It would be bad for advertisers and publishers. Only ones would benefit are the stockholders, at least until lawsuits starting coming in. Maybe one thing that could happen is Yahoo still offering it's own ppc, but doing a meta of both yahoo and google advertisers. They could also get sub-syndication rights..
i don't think we have to be concerned.
Ofcourse, yahoo would want its own ads to work rather than using Google's. So what i think is, Google's ads would stay until Yahoo finds a way out and once its done they would then have their own.
They're just playing with Microsoft and Google is getting a kick out of it. I doubt anyone at Yahoo! wants to get involved with Google - it's probably some stunt to get their stock prices up (through press and association with Google) and to give the company a little boost with the shareholders. But?
It raises the question: Will Google define these ads as Content Network ads, or as part of their search network?
Anyway, the immediate result must be an increase in Yahoo's ad prices, which will be good for everybody but the advertisers.
We bet this makes Microsoft feel all fuzzy inside.
It will jack up the prices of the YSM traffic and dilute it with Google's bottom of the barrel traffic. I don't like this idea at all. I do find the whole situation interesting however. To think about what the Internet will be like when something DOES happen is pretty exciting :-)
Very strange. My take...
1. Yahoo gets more longtail fill
2. Yahoo artificially decreases ad supply and boosts price.
3. Yahoo gets clear data regarding google ads.
4. Yahoo gets analytics exposure in log files ?
5. Bad PR move for Yahoo.
6. Attempt to lower stock price before surprise ?
7. Legal move to entangle Microsoft ?
8. April fools joke slipped in que ?
9. Give something for Yahoo to click on without diluting their own network ?
10. Insider move before buying Google stock ?
11. More peanut butter strategy?
12. Welcome to the machine (Google) ?
Hi Aaron I just wanted to mention that your video is no longer playing "How Does The SEO Book Keyword Tool Work?".
Do you mean the one on the keyword tool page itself? it just worked for me.
