You can now submit your site to the Open Directory Project again. Submissions were down for a while.

i agree with Jeremy Luebke - dmoz is a dead body, the thing that makes it such is the volunteer work on submissions - they work too slow and too subjective..

Does anyone know who is at the helm of DMOZ now that registration is back up and operational???

So if submissions are open again, does that mean submissions will get reviewed? Does anyone know anyone in the DMOZ organization who would make an official statement?

And is there any way to find out if submissions we've made in the past are still in the system, or if we should resubmit?

January 13, 2007 - 9:24pm

Just submitted my site earlier today (as I noticed it was accepting submissions again too).

Anyone have experience on how long this process takes (for what is a popular and legitimate blog site with minimal advertising)?

Do they even get back to you as to when/if your site is approved?

DMOZ has been down for so long, I'm not sure what to expect at this point.

I'm and editor of 3 cats and your blog has made me aware of the last two outage restores. Damn your quick.

I was kind of enjoying the time adding sites myself over the past month with no external submissions. :)

Excuse me for using your blog for this Aaron, but to answer Bobs question, yes, you should resubmit.

January 13, 2007 - 11:41pm

Sweet! Now back to whether or not websites will actually be approved or are they still working on that?

Thank You

It's funny.. I just learned TODAY that submissions were down, and I goto the site and see on the front page it saying they are back =P

Dharmesh, seonewsblog,

Nothing has changed - generally DMOZ gives you no information on your suggestion.
The only way to get any sort of information about whether your submission has been reviewed or not is:
- watch your logs for a dmoz visit
- watch the 'last changed' date on the category you were interested in
and
- pay attention to whether your category of interest has an editor assigned or not (if not then even lower chances of a review)

Good God, would they please let this thing just die. Directories, especially DMOZ as a model are dead.

Man am I glad I checked your blog today. Just submitted a couple of my sites and several of our clients sites. If there is going to be a huge backlog, I wanted to get in the front of the line.

It clearly states on the 'suggest url' page that you should NOT submit a site that already exists in the directory or your site could be excluded! Dave, can you give any proof that this won't happen?

Also, is it possible to edit a category that already exists?

January 14, 2007 - 10:58pm

Submitted today. Thanks Aaron!

January 14, 2007 - 11:05pm

the problem with categories with no editors, is that actually the "volunteer" link to become an editor points to an "unavailable" page :(
I think I'll have to wait for ages :)

January 15, 2007 - 2:49am

Submit all you want, but in some categories it still takes a few bucks to still get your submissions accepted. :(

January 15, 2007 - 4:40am

I'm glad DMOZ is back again. Ditto is their any official statement or news on what happen to DMOZ?

January 15, 2007 - 5:48am

I am going to give it a shot. Any suggestions?

January 15, 2007 - 2:36pm

just one: cross your fingers ;)

This is nice that it's back up. Last month I tried to submit many times just to see if it was up and I got nothing. Now that it's up the only thing I have to worry about is how long the submission process is going to take.

Hey Aaron, this is a bit off topic but I was wondering if you could recommend to me a good web host for a blog I run that get a good bit of traffic. My alexa ranking is about 60,000 and currently I have Wordpress but my current web host is bogging down.

January 16, 2007 - 6:14pm

I have about a 50% track record of submitting with DMOZ. Some sites I have submitted have been accepted within a couple of weeks, while others years later (and a couple more submissions later) are still no where to be found. I have found the more product oriented sites seem to get accepted much easier and faster then the "internet business" or "business" type ones. As much as I dislike the directory I have already been submitting to it again!

January 16, 2007 - 7:17pm

Well I had tried to get in for a couple of months then gave up. After that I read things like it wasn't worth it and they were rubbish, but I just submitted anyhow! Can't hurt now can it!?

January 16, 2007 - 8:59pm

Hurray! Finally. I have been trying some time and it did not work and I thought something was wrong with my pc.

One tip is to submit to categories where there is not much other sites submitted.
