GENIUS PARODY. Kinda funny, I was just creating a post on this Friday, but decided to leave it until this next Friday to publish.

Edit: To clarify, I laughed at Google. Not bc this is a secret "Matt Cutts" video. I have a lot of respect for Matt, but little/none for Google the company.

I think a lot of us are that way...think Matt is a great guy, but Google has grown a wee bit shady.

Heh... Cutts himself said he made perfectly valid linkbait.

I'm not sure this is what he had in mind however.

Aaron,

I learned about SEO Book after Giovanna Villanueva (nka Giovanna Wall?) commented on my blog about my offshore software development company last year. I've taken a keen interest in SEO lately so I subscribed to your blog last week. After watching this video, I'm compelled to share my thoughts with you:

1). Don't Believe the Hype: The first thing that caught my attention about you is the *lack* of hype. Your posts on credibility, "failure", and selling great content show me that you're not selling hype. The "Proven Instant Automatice Wealth" post was especially powerful. I thought SEO was all about manipulation, tricks, secrets, and internet mind control. Not anymore, which brings me to my next point...

2). Sun Tzu Was Right: He said "Strategy without tactics is the slowest route to victory. Tactics without strategy is the noise before defeat" I get a good mix of tactics, but more importantly I'm learning that SEO isn't about magic. It's about using the web to *share* great concepts, ideas, and stories. But once you have the strategy down, the tactics (tricks, secrets, and internet mind control) almost always reveal themselves... and they usually aren't nearly as 'cloak and dagger', just hard work.

3). Relationships Matter: I read your "101 Linkbuilding Ideas" post last week and the light bulb on top of my head suddenly lit up. I finally got what SEO is about. It's not about tricks, hacks, or voodoo. It's about creating a piece of content that makes other people look better, smarter, cooler, or more connected. It's about offering something so valuable, that they create a permanent relationship with you (a link) telling the entire world that you are trustworthy, credible, knowledgable, and intelligent. I finally get it...

4). Google Is NOT 'god': I thought SEO folks worshipped Google. This video, as well as a number of posts you've written lead me to believe the opposite. In fact, I see legitimate SEO pro's trying to make the system more just. I had no idea...

5). Game the System: You can if you want to... and you can "dominate" the search engines for a particular phrase. But a much better way is to pursue something you're truly passionate about and contribute to an existing community... or build your own. Leverage the strength of existing by interacting, collaborating, contributing, participating.

Proud to be part of the community Aaron. Please keep up the good work. We need it.

Fun video and I especially like the use of xtranormal...hopefully one of the first chinks in the armor of the last stronghold for the old guard (video/tv/film).
