Not exactly new to the site, but wanted to take the time to introduce myself.

My name is Augusto Ellacuriaga and through our Spanish SEO (http://www.SpanishSEO.org/) company we help businesses and individuals reach Latinos and Hispanics online in English and Spanish.

I've been a member of the SEOBook Community Forums since the very begining and have the greatest appreciation for its members, mods and admin. The level of understanding of business and marketing practices, plus the quality of information shared makes this community a remarkable place to hang out. Not to mention Aaron's dedication to make it a top notch community which is pretty impressive.

I look forward to connecting with others.

Cheers :)

I'm an e-commerce copywriter for a humongous apparel company (household name). Very interested in SEO, usability, conversion, best practices. Not so interested in the techie / geeky aspects. Completely mystified by all that link-building stuff, but that's OK, because our in-house SEO guru takes care of all that. :-)

Very, very interested in learning how to optimize product copy and related content for customers (first) and spiders (second). Would love to see more advice for e-commerce copywriters in industries such as apparel. We do not have the luxury of "long-form copy" (a la high-ticket service providers, mortage companies, etc. etc.). It seems as if very little advice out there is geared toward us garden-variety e-commerce copywriters. Any insights you can provide for us would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Aaron,

I am Dilip from India.

I do affiliate marketing since 2005 and making a good living. ;)

I was an employee (read student) of Sumantra Roy (the inventor of KEI), and learnt some great SEO techniques when I was there. He may have left the SEO field long back, but just out of interest want to share that he makes an enormous amount of money online while playing tennis throughout the day in a great club and sleeping of course.

Your tips add to what I have learnt in his company and helping me make even more online.

Thanks. Keep up the good Work.

Dilip

May 12, 2009 - 2:41pm

Hi Dilip

makes an enormous amount of money online while playing tennis throughout the day in a great club and sleeping

I actually see this as a net negative sign. Anyone who wants you to know they don't work long and hard hours is typically trying to use their lifestyle as a wedge in their marketing strategy...making you think that if you keep buying their products one day you can be just like them.

It is a common technique used by many get rich quick marketers. Not that I know Sumantra Roy well enough to put him in that category, but that type of marketing is generally seen as an alarm signal.

WebMarketingArt
May 12, 2009 - 6:05pm

Hi Aaron,

He is not selling any home based business product, and this he never used as any marketing effort in any of his websites.

It’s just that I live in the same city that he is in, and know that now-a-days he enjoys life more than working online but still makes a lot of money. And he is not even 30.

May be he works smart than working hard, may be he is lucky – but I do agree that one should keep working hard to at least maintain the income one is satisfied with.

Patrick
May 12, 2009 - 11:34am

@WebMarketingArt: I hope this doesnt sound like Im tryingto offend your former mentor or spread negative vibes (Im not:-)) - if he makes as much money as you say, obviously he must know what he's doing - but 'KEI' in my opinion is one of the most flawed concepts I've come across in the field of SEO.

(Just as flawed as people analyzing how many results there are for one keyword phrase (other than a quick first glance type of analysis), when all they should be wondering about is how competitive the top10 or top20 results are whether there are 30 or 30 million competing pages).

Anyway, youve definitely come to the right resource if you want to learn more about SEO and online marketing ;-)

WebMarketingArt
May 12, 2009 - 1:50pm

Patrick, Sumantra has always maintained that KEI is NOT a perfect way to find the right keywords, but it might give you some "indications".

Yes, today, it is flawed, but even today WordTracker (the most popular keyword research tool online – Aaron himself uses it in SEOBook) is using KEI to market its product.

And what about inventing something that has thousands of scholarly articles written after it?

The keyword "keyword effectiveness index" itself has a competition of 16,900,000, and many top reputed SEO websites have an article on it.

You may also want to go back to 2002-03 when this was invented. There were many webmasters who followed it with great results. Even Sumantra used KEI to get top ranks for thousands of his clients. Agreed at that time SEO was pretty easy, but it did help him to make money. So, whether it is flawed or not doesn’t matter.

5 years down the line, probably what Aaron and you are writing will become flawed. But you have to do business today not 5 years down the line.

I am sure KEI has helped many people start a business online (I am one of them and am sure there are thousands out there).

Yes KEI may be dead, but it made a lot of lives. It did its job.

He was also one of the first entrepreneurs in the field of search engine ranking business and ran a company of 10-15 people while doing his MBA from a college thousands of miles away. His success rate – 99%.

I must also mention his newsletters that were one of the best at that time on free advice on SEO. They are good even today.

His articles were featured in many top SEO sites including MarketingSherpa.

He left the field of SEO probably because he started a new venture ConversionMultiplier.com which bombed. He had done a lot of research and invested a huge amount of money (no venture capitals), but lost almost half a million US Dollars.

Again ahead of the time, when people did not properly understand multivariate testing of landing pages, he marketed his product in the USA, but as luck would have it – did not get many clients.

The software was great, but sometimes somethings just don’t click.

I don’t want to discuss his business here in a public place (I know it but I won’t – no, no, it cant be copied :) ), but believe me he is making much more than what you can imagine and also not working as much as we do on the Internet.

Dilip

May 12, 2009 - 2:33pm

His success rate – 99%

That sounds like a meaningless advertisement that is pure marketing copy. Without defining what success is, that statistic is meaningless.

Truthfully from a business perspective I never try to make ***everything*** I do become successful, because it is not the highest ROI strategy.

Search is an iterative process. Do more of what is working and less of what did not work.

My strategy is more like this...launch 5 sites, and...

  • aggressively reinvest in growth on the 1 that is doing unbelievably well
  • keep investing on the next couple successes, but do not focus on them anywhere near as much as #1
  • kill off the bottom couple sites...just let them sit and age until they show signs of life OR I have more labor available to put into the projects

That sounds like a meaningless advertisement that is pure marketing copy.

Again Aaron, as I said earlier he has left the SEO business long back. I was his employee and we did achieve that success rate. In fact I don’t remember any of our clients asking their money back.

Unfortunately the 5cent a click business that he started earned him a lot of money, but also bad reputation, coupled with the conversion multiplier project faring badly – he left the search engine field for good.

In the last meeting with us, when asked why he was leaving such a lucrative field, I remember he said, "A business can't be a business which is dependent on a third party's business (i.e. search engines)".

Many thanks for the strategy. I am doing exactly that. :)

May 13, 2009 - 11:14pm

Hi Dilip,

I didn't mean to say anything bad about that guy, just about his invention called KEI (other than that I dont know anything about him other than what you said here, so i cant and wouldnt judge him in a negative way).

Ive learned not to spend my time on discussing things like this too much (because it's simply lost opportunity cost and energy), but one last thing: the fact that wordtracker is using KEI to market their product means absolutely nothing about the quality of KEI.

KEI is simple to understand, that's why it's a good marketing idea for wordtracker. The easier it is to understand the easier it is for people to talk about it and/or to use it (and wordtracker). No way, wordtracker is going to put an explanation on how to analyze the competition of a set of SERPs on their site, because it wouldnt be easy enough to understand, thus people would be put off and less would play around with it/buy their services.

I'm not saying KEI isnt great marketing considering it has spread so far (though some of the SEO websites - including "keyword guru" hehe Dan thies - that Ive seen it on have not praised it exactly). I'm just saying it isn't a good idea to do market research and/or keyword research. That reminds me of a phrase by Aaron I read..something along the lines "What is popular isn't always right..." describing one of the first articles on SEO he wrote that ended up becoming popular and that he thinks of as less correct, now then back then (if I remember that correctly - if Im confusing something, I apologize).

And anyone who isn't willing to put in enough effort in to learn how to analyze the competitiveness of a set of SERPs should probably forget about this altogether.

Now I wrote way more than I meant to once again lol. Anyway, I didnt mean to disrespect your mentor (about who I know absolutely nothing thus I cant say anything negative about him personally), Im just saying I think using KEI is a bad idea. Im not saying coming up with it wasn't great marketing, though.

My wife and I started a business with an online store selling folding cardboard flower vases for weddings and events www.blumebox.com. I'm not quite ready to commit to your training course, but hope to soon. If possible I'd like to see more case studies on how you've helped get small businesses grow by using specific techniques and any info you have to walk us through an obvious progression in the ever changing environment. Keep up the great work.

Hello there.

I typically don't join in on the welcome boards for most sites, but every once in a while you come across a site that really feels sincere - and it makes you *want* to say hello - and that's my impression of Aaron and his team.

Thus, in the spirit of sincerity, here's a little about me:

I am the Director of Search and New Media for Closed Loop Marketing (http://www.closed-loop-marketing.com/amy-greer.php). I've been doing SEO for more than 3 years and online marketing for more than 5.

I started off as an anthropologist and communications scholar, but decided to try the corporate life after I finished my Master's. There's more money in what I do now, but I think someday I'll go back for that PhD.

In the meantime, I've discovered that *who* you work with and *how* you work with them is much more important that *what* you do. I work for a great company with fantastic people who value quality in their work as well as in their clients.

And quality is why I joined SEOBook.

Nice job, Aaron. Glad to be here.

Hey guys,

My name is Brent Morse and I am a freelance flash web developer. Yeah I know, flash guys usually get a bad rap but I really enjoy the flexibility that flash gives me when developing.

I read an article a while back about how Adobe, Google and Yahoo have all been working together to make .swf files search friendly which I think will make a great impact in the future of how sites are built.

We all know that flash will never replace traditional web development techniques/languages but I like the fact that you can create a visual experience for a client while still allowing visitors to get the information they are looking for.

Anyways, I want to say thanks to Aaron for the hard work you've devoted to helping other people and being a top leader in this competitive industry.

Hello all... My name is Travis McAshan and I own a humble (three man team) website design and development firm in Austin, Texas. Currently, we focus on building best in class websites that help our clients make a return on their investments. While our sites cost $5K on average our SEO partners are charging that PER MONTH. It's just not right I tell you...

I'd like to get paid more for my brain and less for the work of my hands. I'd also like to spend more time with my new wife and less time in the drudgery. I'm hoping to learn enough about SEO to be dangerous for my clients and help them achieve their goals. I know that will help me achieve mine!

Hey
I'm Eric. My friend found the Rank Checker tool here and we love it. Can be very addicting.

I'm currently a Project Manager but I do some web work for my company since we are a new company.
http://www.springbok.ca is our website. Its built in DotNetNuke so one day I hope to build it from scratch to improve a lot of the SEO.

I learnt most of my SEO when I was a web developer for a company called Matrikon.

Thanks!

Hi all,
my name is Satyajit, I am the co-founder of http://gotclues.com - we recently opened up our site on the public domain.
GotClues is a youtube for multimedia quizzes. You can play, create, share any kind of quizzes, and embed any type of audio, video, images along with these quizzes. Shortly, we have the desktop version and mobile (iPhone) version coming up. Its 'user-generated-curiosity'!
I was highly recommended to read the seobook by a friend, who has been immensely rewarded by reading this book. I just took a look at it yday, and will be reading more. Since we are an early stage startup, its essential for us to think SEO from now on and incorporate thoughts and suggestions into our development accordingly.
cheers,

I am new to this site and look forward to all of the seo information I can learn here. I am a member of other internet marketing sites where I have gained a lot of knowledge to work on the internet.

There is just not enough hours in the day to maintain my sports memorabilia sites and then move into IM.

I have been selling online since 2005, via ebay and other shopping sites, and started my website in 2007. The site gets a lot of natural traffic from google but I know with more SEO knowledge I can "shove" the site over the edge for more traffic.

I am a rookie in any kind of SEO and look forward to any kind of help I can get here.

Take a look at my site here and I enjoy any advice or constructive criticism. http://autographedprosportsmemorabilia.com

Iam based in Edinburgh, Scotland and run a small SEO business. We keep our client numbers small and manageable, but give fantastic service and have achieved some really great results.

I recognise I need to keep lifting my game here and learn all the time, so looking forward to offering what has worked for me and learning how to work more efficiently with even more visibility for my clients.

We are just in the process of creating a new specialist SEO website to match the more generic one we currently operate within.

Hello

I'm based in the UK and have a website selling fine art canvas prints - http://www.espiritoart.com

As a near-beginner to SEO I've come to try and pick up some advice on a basic level. To be quite honest I'm interested in hearing this advice from one source with a good reputation. I've looked at forums and tried to get tips but all I've seen is 'experts' disagreeing with each other on which options I should pursue. Getting tired of the contradictions so going to see what this site can offer - before decided whether to become a fully paid up member.

Hi, heard lots of great things about this site.

I'm an entrepreneur looking to optimize a few properties...started off as a physician and McKinsey consultant who's now trying to apply those experiences to the web.

Biggest immediate focus is my wife's local catering site--she focuses on miniature foods-- we're looking to tap into organic search more effectively http://www.bitecatering.net

I've pushing retail healthcare...have an early beta site that helps people find "best-fit" health appointments. www.healthshoppr.com

So I'm excited to learn more about two very different approaches to optimizing traffic.

I came across seobook.com from a link by Patrick Mckenzie at BingoCardCreator.com and I find this information really useful.

I have created my own product/site and am trying to increase traffic/sales for the product.

The product is a Project Management tool for Microsoft Outlook, the site can be found here: http://www.MissingLinkProjectCenter.com

I'm hoping to learn a lot and use that information to help build my business.

Hey Aaron ...

Over the years I've tapped into your fantastic resources to help boost traffic for my own health centre and my Practice-Building Mentoring clients. Every Internet Marketing pro I know has mentioned your website at some time of another ... and actually, re-reading Jeff Spires ebook this morning "How to Profit from Adwords" inspired me to sign-up and apply yr tools more seriously.

I recommend your website to anyone needing to get better at SEO (hmmm ... that would be pretty much everyone I come across in small business ...). Thanks for providing the service you do ...

Just using the free keyword tool this morning gave me ideas on ways to tweak and improve my Google Adwords campaigns today, plus build traffic and backlinks.

We've added your SEO Toolbar to our TOP 10 TOOLS in our Practice-Building Mentoring for health professionals, coaches and consultants! Keep up the amazing service Aaron!

Yup, SEO is another chapter for me as well. I'm excited and awaited to work with you all, cheers! Thanks.

Gentleman,

My name is ric savacool. Three years ago I wrote a fitness book and got the bright idea to market it on the internet even though my laptop was really a $3,000 paper weight. I was going to build a web site and market my book. How hard could it be, right? A year went by and I had a good site. Then I began to study SEO and Google search-ology.

I got a good look at the possibilities of income based on affiliate marketing and site building. I was hooked and for some reason sitting in front of a computer, banging on a keyboard down to the nth degree appealed to me. I love it and my JOB gets in the way but I got a family to feed. To be honest, I haven't made a dime. As a matter of fact, I'm in the hole about $8,000 b/c of "trust me" web site businesses stuff on the internet.

Now after filling my library with top books on design and hopefully your tools and knowledge, I'M GONNA CRACK THIS NUTT. Every evolution, I get better. My first ALL MINE site was http://currencies-howtotrade.com - not bad but needs alot of work. My current effort is http://bible-belt-greenville.us - Wish me luck. thanx -- ric

I discovered the site some weeks ago, but only recently I could find some time to start exploring it.

I have a few low traffic websites and I would like to improve them and get more traffic.

Some of them are:

websites.datamission.co.uk
mariobizopps.blogspot.com

Some of those sites are quite aggressive with the email collection forms and are not really making a strong compelling offer that would make lots of people want to submit their information.

Hi,
I friend of mine send me a link to your article: 101 Ways to Build Link Popularity. I wish I read it back in 2006. The main point I get is: the only way to build you link popularity is by really doing it the right way. Probably by this time all the search engines a getting smarter so there is no a miracle way to improve your page rank by buying some cheap system and depending on 1000 phony domains to link to each other.

Thanks,

Peter

September 8, 2009 - 4:40pm

September 14, 2009 - 11:26pm

Hi, My name is Fabio. I'm new to SEO, and I really appreciate this site. It took me a while to find because there are a lot of SEO sites out there that claim to have the magic bullet. This site, on the other hand seems to be a massive collection of common sense and experience.

The main site that I am trying to get optimized is catrr.com, which is a brand new domain, so that makes things a little more difficult. We'll see what happens.

September 15, 2009 - 12:05am

Welcome to the site Fabio.

You are correct that we are different than lots of SEO sites. Many are set up to sell whatever sells (often through hype) whereas this site was initially set up to help people. And we have shared thousands of blog posts over the years that are in many cases far better than the paid content you would find elsewhere :)

I stumbled upon this site after I searched Drupal on wikipedia. My name is Pavan Katepalli and my company's website www.MyFitSolution.com is in the process of getting redesigned and reprogrammed. We run the same content management system as SEO Book! Drupal rocks! As all my money has been invested in the company, as soon as we launch and bring in revenue, I'll be a full member on this site!

I read Search Engine Optimization Made Easy by Brad Callen, the guy who made SEO Elite. I also worked for an SEO Company doing sales before.

I'm glad I stumbled on a site that actually keeps up with trends. I heard about Google switching up their relevancy algorithms and I can't wait to see what SEO Book teaches me about what's new in that field.

Looking forward to hearing from you guys!

Sincerely,
Pavan Katepalli

Success Architects, an interactive online marketing company and, Strategic Management Think Tank. The company, located in Orange County, FL., provides “smart and sticky” websites, ecommerce integration, membership websites and coaching in Social Networking. The company is spearheaded by infrastructure guru Paul Bonnallie. He has assembled a powerful and unique group of talented experts that provide a coaching program for business professionals who would like to leverage Social Networking and the power of internet marketing.

Paul Bonnallie has worked with hundreds of business owners across the nation helping them leverage Social Networking. His simple marketing solutions and “Influence with Integrity” methods have helped companies immediately increase their sales. Paul experienced a variety of sales and marketing positions before starting his own company in 2000. He has been able to prove his techniques and methods by taking startup companies to million dollar sales levels in a short amount of time. In his 18 years of management experience he has worked with small business owners, startup companies, and America’s top entrepreneurs.

Having worked in the Internet space for over 18 years, He has mastered online tools and taught individuals and companies how to leverage their expertise into million dollar results. He personally owns and manages 4 membership websites. His knowledge comes from hands on experience not made up theories. He is noted for being one of “The World’s Foremost Authorities on Membership Websites” and has helped propel companies to the Inc 500’s list of fasted growing private companies. He is highly acclaimed as a brilliant innovator and marketer.

Many clients have been quoted as saying, “I had more ideas in 1 week from Paul then I did in my entire 25 years in business”. Another client said, “Paul Bonnallie… His energy and passion is contagious!” Paul is the author of the eBook “Internet Sales… The wave of the Future”, which gives users a simple step by step process to effortlessly grow their business.

Technology and how to effectively use it in business, is what Paul has dedicated over 20 years of his life to. He recognized early that success in the technology industry would depend on more than great engineers who could build anything and great business people who could sell anything. It is also necessary for the two groups to be able to communicate. To that end, Mr. Bonnallie pursued an educational background in both technical (Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering) and non-technical (International Business) areas as well as acquiring industry certification.

Whether it was working in Large Scale Program Management, in Network Engineering, or as a Technical Business Consultant, Paul has been in the position of having to understand the latest technologies, communicate with “hard core” engineers, and, at the same time, be able to relate this to corporations and Service Providers.

Paul Bonnallie is known to be a modern day “Rain Maker” propelling business onto the internet and launching aggressive marketing campaigns and leveraging ecommerce platforms. His unique ability to understand and use both new and traditional technologies while maintaining the motto “Ride the Wave, not the Bleeding Edge” brings an invaluable asset to any organization and its goal to use the best technology to provide the best quality product at the best price. He is consistently involved in shaping strategic direction; and operates with a straightforward, result oriented management style, which is backed with a philosophy of “influence with integrity”. These strong facets are further complemented by his uncompromising standard of excellence.

“Do some sort of check of yourself in which you re-evaluate what exactly it is that you are working for. If it is fun and relaxation that you are after, maybe you are actually passing it by without even realizing it. “The fun you seek is right there in front of your face, and it would be best if you take advantage of it now instead of waiting until some magic hour at which point you feel you have earned it. Remember to live in the Moment.” “Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, I would rather to skid in broadside thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming…. Wow what a ride!”

Hey everyone,
Joe here also from around the Manila area =)

I've been learning about I.M for a year now. I just graduated from college last April and I've been working as an associate in a US search firm to learn the ropes. I currently don't have any active websites but I've partnered with my friend to monetize his blog and leverage his dedication to his niche. We're planning to launch it a week before the fireworks.

Anyway, I found out about this site by googling "SEO Firefox tools" 7 mos. ago. I hope to be an active paid member in the near future once I have enough online earnings to support it. I won't bother you for now as I'm all for creating and exchanging value.

Thanks for lifting the veil that allowed us to see a more realistic view of the whole circus; specially for putting the Big-G under the spotlight and illuminating its underlying motivations.

I've a 13 year history as a web designer where I've always incorporated SEO as 'part and parcel' of what I do. After all, there's not much point in having a website if no-one knows it's there, right?

Hi Aaron and team!

Before I tell a couple of words about me, let me thank you for your excellent site! You have exactly the quality SEO information I need.

So who am I? Right now I work as business consultant for two large telecom companies, and I have background deeply rooted in IT. At the same time I have an IT start-up company, which is building up a porfolio of online services.

One of the online services we just launched is a recruitment site at http://www.ejobs.fi/ , focusing on job openings in Finland. Jobseekers can search jobs, build their CV and apply for jobs through the site. Employers can post job ads easily and quickly, and search for suitable candidates. The business model is that employers are paying for placing their job ads. In the future another option could be to earn revenue through advertising.

So why am I here on SEObook.com ? In my entrepreneur role owning a few online services I will be heavily using SEO concepts and online marketing. Right now we are applying these concepts for ejobs.fi . And while I am quite familiar with the subject and related products and services, I still have plenty to learn from you!

In case you wish to contact me, my contact information is on http://www.ejobs.fi/site_contact.php . I look forward to read your material thoroughly, and to be in touch!

Szilard Mihalydeak,

Its good to be here. I am a marketing consultant and have been following SEOBook for years. Is there a better resource for learning SEO? I think not! I've been able to help several businesses get top rankings just off what I have learned from your blog over the years. Anyways...

I just got verbal approval on a joint venture I proposed with my company. We will soon be offering SEO services to the current client base. This has been my dream for a long time. I can't wait for all the documents to be signed so I can become a premium member.

P.S. It was your (Aaron's) write up in What Matters Now that persuaded me take the leap. Great advice. Thank you.

Hey Aaron:

My name is Micah hailing from normally sunny Santa Monica, California. 70 degrees today while most of the country bundles up.

Just three months ago I set out to develop a website for my real estate business. Ever since then I feel like I stumbled down a rabbit hole expecting to bump into Alice. You folks do co-exist on another dimension than the rest of us.

I immediately became fascinated with SEO and set out to see how real it is. Took a long-tailed key word and tried to rank. Almost fell off my chair when I saw myself in Google 3rd position out of 20,600,000 relevant pages for that key word. It quickly proved to me how relevant SEO is.

And now I'm blown away again when I'm seeing you give away free tools which I had no idea existed after spending almost $4,000 on "so called" IM gurus. By the way, I got almost zero SEO training for my $4,000.

It seems this rabbit hole has finally led me to the correct destination.

January 5, 2010 - 6:06pm

1.) Welcome to the site Micha
2.) congrats on the early rankings
3.) yeah most "IM gurus" are only gurus of selling hyped up hollow trash to people new to the web. sorry to hear they scammed you...that makes it harder for people to trust honest folks after they get scammed by the email list affiliate-driven launch hype type folks.
4.) glad you liked our tools & consider us the right destination :D
5.) if you find our tools more valuable than what you got for $4,000 elsewhere I hope that means you are going to join our training program too...you are already thousands ahead before subscribing

I think the reason you are getting "more useless info than I need" is because the types of information you were going after. The words Master Mind Group are closely related to hucksterism and hype driven spam, at least in most cases ;)

May 5, 2010 - 11:33am

It depends on how much you know about SEO & what type of site you have. But, in general, the daily auto-responders should be quite helpful for an introductory guide. And this guide should be a great starting point
http://knol.google.com/k/seo-basics

If you wanted more then the site search works great, and if you want to ask any specific questions that is where our training program and member forums can help take you to the next level.

Greetings everyone. My name is Vik, and I'm glad I found this resource. I've done some SEO for my e-commerce and info product sites a few years ago, but haven't done any SEO since about 2007. I'm excited to get back into it, learn as much as I can, and dominate the search engines!
