Making a Couple SEO Videos

A long time ago I made a keyword research video which was WAY too long and came out a bit grany. I recently bought the latest copy of Camtasia Studio and am thinking about making a few short SEO videos. Here are some possible topic ideas:

  • what are quality links

  • what web directories are worthwhile
  • link baiting and how do I appeal to web 2.0
  • how to use SEO for Firefox
  • how to do competitive research
  • how to find the most profitable keywords
  • how to write page titles and meta description tags
  • how to do on the page optimization
  • how to structure a website to be search engine friendly AND convert well
  • how do I pick a niche
  • how to evaluate the health of a website

So the question is... what topics would you like to see me make short tutorial videos about? I can't guarantee I will make them all, but I will try to make at least a few, and then listen to feedback to make a few more that are hopefully a bit better.

I thought of another I'd love to see -- something like "A day in the life of Aaron Wall". Maybe done in a condensed "24" type style. Now that you are undertaking so many things I think it would be really interesting to see how you manage it all -- such as planning and preparing your posts for the blog, handling consultations, optimizing client sites, working on your own sites, etc.

I think all would be great but maybe "how to do on the page optimization" to begin with?

These are great topics. I'd watch them all and doubtless learn, but these are my favorites.

** - what are quality links - yes
*** - link baiting and how do I appeal to web 2.0 - I've seen it done but I want to see YOU do it
** - how to use SEO for Firefox - sure
*** - how to do competitive research
*** - how to find the most profitable keywords
** - how to structure a website to be search engine friendly AND convert well
*** - how do I pick a niche
** - how to evaluate the health of a website

I agree also with "A day in the life of Aaron Wall. " ;)

The question is perfect but the way to answer is bad.
Now you have lot of work on defining the preferences.

IMO i would like

* how to do competitive research
* how to find the most profitable keywords
* How find quality links
* how to do on the page optimization
* how to structure a website to be search engine friendly AND convert well
* how to use SEO for Firefox

Incredible Response! People LOVE VIDEOS - voyeurism?

February 5, 2007 - 9:14pm

* what are quality links
* what web directories are worthwhile
* how to do competitive research
* how to find the most profitable keywords
* how to do on the page optimization
* how to structure a website to be search engine friendly AND convert well

I especially like those topics, but also I want to hear more about your AdSense success. I know you do quite well in that space, and I do not. I get about 1,000 impressions per day and make a couple bucks at best - something is wrong with my approach and it is quite frustrating to say the least. AdSense is really one of my only revenue streams for one of my sites, and I should be making more.

"how to evaluate the health of a website"

Now that sounds very interesting, this sure would be a hit

February 6, 2007 - 1:39am

Any topic where we can learn from is fine..

February 6, 2007 - 5:35am

Aaron,

You seem to have struck a chord. Lots of comments.

My interest is with:

how to find the most profitable keywords

As with others, I would likely watch whatever is available.

* how to structure a website to be search engine friendly AND convert well

From the list:
how to do competitive research
how to find the most profitable keywords
how to do on the page optimization
how to structure a website to be search engine friendly AND convert well

I would like to see a case study with a fictitious or even better, a real company. The study would take us through the SEO steps taken from the initial contact with the company through maintenance of their SEO. The case study would identify the challenges that exist with the company and the potential solutions to better their SEO.

Hi,

I think every item in the list is actual. Beside from the list, I'd like to see topics about semantic and vertical search engine optimization.

February 4, 2007 - 5:16am

I am so sick of linkbait-related topics I think I might just unsubscribe from the next blog that makes a linkbait post. Anyway, my preferences, rated 0-5 ;-)

4 - what are quality links

2 - what web directories are worthwhile

0 - link baiting and how do I appeal to web 2.0

0 or 5 - how to use SEO for Firefox (0 if you mean functionally how it works, 5 if you mean a detailed run through of how you use each piece of data and which is most important and so on).

5 - how to do competitive research

5 - how to find the most profitable keywords

1 - how to write page titles and meta description tags

2 - how to do on the page optimization

3 - how to structure a website to be search engine friendly AND convert well

4 - how do I pick a niche

5 - how to evaluate the health of a website

yes please do make the videos that would be cool, make another keyword research video and then show once you get your keywords how to actually place them on the site, also please show the best way to start getting links to a new site. thanks.

My votes are for...

# how do I pick a niche

# how to evaluate the health of a website

February 4, 2007 - 7:52am

I would like to see the following topics.

1. - how to do competitive research

2. - how to find the most profitable keywords

3. - how do I pick a niche

Thanks

i think all are important ...

Hey video, you'll have a lot of fun, just make sure the presentation is enjoyable (maybe some humor) if you want to attract the largest audience.

Link appraisal - deciding what are the best links for your target site.

February 4, 2007 - 1:26pm

Wow... this is really cool, Aaron. I am really looking forward to this. I would really like a video on how to effectively build links for a targeted niche.

February 4, 2007 - 1:30pm

What great topics! All sound good but the two I'd be most interested in from your list are:

- how to find the most profitable keywords
- how to evaluate the health of a website

Something not on your list, but that I think would be great would be a video about the "first steps" that you take when link building for a new website. In general, I think framing all of the videos as the "first steps in (topic)" would be really useful and probably help a lot of people get started.

February 4, 2007 - 1:50pm

I'd like to see a video teaching us how to choose right keywords to our site, a good description...

Everything in meta tags, about SEO, surely :)

Kasper
February 4, 2007 - 2:05pm

I'd actually really like for you to do them all Aaron :P

If I'd have to make a priority though, I'd probably say:

- How do I pick a niche?
- What web directories are worthwhile
- How to find the most profitable keywords

Anyways, I'm looking forward to be watching whatever videos you make!

Topics ( in order of desire):
- 10 reasons why web professor is the greatest guy evar!
- 8 ways to get my favorite porn star to read my blog ( with case study )
- Ways to actually get traffic from google before a year is up.

I'm hoping for the first 2 but if you go with my safety topic I be tickled too.

February 4, 2007 - 6:36pm

Aaron,

I am very happy that you are going to start making videos again. I think any of the topics that you have discussed would be beneficial to anyone that watches them. I have about 30 or 40 pages of SEO videos (I have a section specifically for you), and I do have the one that you made a while back, I would like to know if these videos will be on YouTube or Gvideo? One thing I must agree is that watching a long video is a bit of an attention span thing for a lot of visitors, (at least thats what Google analytics is telling me). 5 minute videos seem to hit the right balance of time with a lot of the visitors that watch them. I look forward to the vidoes and I hope that you will let us know when they are available.

February 4, 2007 - 8:59pm

The topic that I would like to read/see about is:

how to do competitive research

I think that this topic is very important in SEO world.

February 4, 2007 - 9:39pm

Aaron I'd enjoy seeing any or all videos you decide to do. I think my top three would be:

- how to do competitive research
- how to find the most profitable keywords
- how do I pick a niche

but I might easily have a different top three tomorrow or in an hour.

I did watch the old keyword video and yeah it wasn't the best as far as technical quality, but the content of the video was good and I think you'll do well with the new ones.

Since more and more people are looking to video, a post about your experience with Camtasia might be good once you've had a little practice using it.

February 4, 2007 - 10:12pm

I woudl be interested in how do you pick niche.

February 4, 2007 - 9:59pm

1. how to evaluate the health of a website
2. how to do competitive research
3. how to structure a website to be search engine friendly AND convert well

good, more content for my search marketing videos resources :)

Thanks Aaron

Strange coincidences going on here. We've just made an SEO video but sort of a stupid one. It's more focussed on the great website myths we come across when pitching to clients. Filmed it on Saturday, being edited now should be live by Wednesday. We actually used proper actors. We know someone who knows someone etc. Chap in the lead role played the man in the ice cream van in "The League of Gentlemen" which is a bit proper if you're on this side of the water.

Obviously it would be a lot better if I could say, "Hey, look at what we did". But, erm, check in on Wednesday.

# how to find the most profitable keywords
# what are quality links
# what web directories are worthwhile

Then Everything else... :)

Hi Aaron,

I just register with seobook this morning and WOW it's really really good man.....I love it.....I promote a direct sales company and I do very good with video marketing but I have a problem!! I start doing some how to videos with Camtasia but I'm taking to long with the videos and I can't upload more than 10 minutes of video in youtube....How can I upload more than that? If is posible.

Thanks and Great Job with this site.

Danny

March 30, 2008 - 8:52pm

Hi Danny
I think the key is to usually keep the videos shorter than 10 minutes. I think you can upload to Google video if it is longer than that, but I try to keep most my videos at about 5 minutes now.

Thanks again,

I've run some back links analysis on competitors and i've have seen back links from the oddest places like random back links from college newspapers and EIN news service. how exactly is that done? also, is it still worth submitting to the paid yahoo directory and dmoz?
