How Commercial is a Web Page or Search Query?
Microsoft AdCenter Labs offers a tool for Detecting Online Commercial Intention. It estimates the probability of a web page or search query being information, commercial-informational, or commercial-transactional in nature. I think you have to use IE to use Microsoft's tool. Well at least they are consistant with the stupidity of trying to make it hard for their good ideas to spread.
You can also use Yahoo! Mindset to see how page relevancy scores change as algorithms move from commercial to informational in nature. Google's current search algorithms are heavily biased toward older and informational resources.

Aaron, ypu mentioned that "Google's current search algorithms are heavily biased toward older and informational resources."
I am curious, what do you consider an older web page.
For example:
Does january 2004 count as an old?
It is all relative. How old are the top ranked sites that rank for queries you want to rank for.
Well Im talking really general.
Pethaps for something like the term "coupon"
I mean in general do you think that early 2004
is considered old or not?
Thankyou for your reply.
Hi S
If you want to buy paid consulting I offer that service.
The only way I am going to do free in depth market analysis is if I create a site that competes with yours. I don't think that is probably going to be too benificial to you.
You can look through Archive.org at the top ranked sites to see how old they are.
Google.com : Non commercial. Yea, right.
Hi Arron,
Thanks for the Link to Webmetricsguru.com. I have been playing with Microsoft's AdCenter Demos for a while - the Commerical Intension Tool is good for seeing if pages aren't making it to the top of natural search because a search engine considers them too commercial.
