Everything I Know About Online Marketing, on One Page
I recently created the internet marketing mind map, covering just about everything I know about online marketing.
I would love your feedback on the format, size, and content. Should I make more in depth mind maps for niche topics?
Update: Due to popular feedback I just Creative Commons licensed the internet marketing mind map, so you can download it, mix it, share it, and do what you like with it.

Aaron,
I'm using a mindmap to manage the efforts on my new site, they're a very cool way to get everything out of your head and onto a visual. Your IM mindmap was very cool, and I actually discovered that I knew about/thought about a lot of the same stuff! Awesome!

I like the directory structure you setup, but I'd probably recommend you make it more collapsable / expandable for ease of use, peppering it with screen shots and possible examples.
We've used some form of mindmapping over the past couple of years to keep all our projects in order; it is very helpful when one needs to pull back and see the big picture.
I totally agree that images are needed and I should make it expandable and collapsible.
This was my first test one...kinda to get the feel for the software and whatnot.
Well it looks impressive and overwhelming in the same time, but this is the first time I saw a mind map. I am sure it is very useful.
By the way it took quite a while for your pages to load. I am new and have an unrelated question. I am looking for a good copywriter, or a web site with good advice in this matter.
Magda
I may upgrade my server to something beefier soon to speed up page load times.
Copyblogger is my first port of call for copywriting advice.
I am highly impressed with all the work you did on this. It looks very comprehensive. Is there a way I can download the mindmap file? I want to print it out by itself, not with everything else on this page. Your logo on it though so I know where it came from.
At the top of the Mindmap there is a link to a printable PDF version and a link to download the Mindmap in a Mindmap extension, so you may change it up and reformat it as you like.
Is there a copy of that map available for download? I am big fan of mind mapping and I am going to launch an "online mind map library" in the new few weeks.
It would be great if you can let me use your map as one of the real-world examples.
Here is a snippet that I created

Hi Alexu
I just licensed it via Creative Commons and put the .mm file online here. Use it as you wish.
I wish it was easier to print -- maybe make one page for each of the main branches?
Have you tried printing the PDF version? did that not work well?
I'm just impressed with the obvious time put into this! I will be pointing to this puppy very soon. People should really appreciate this effort and at first glance I think you got just about everything!
Thnx for the kind feedback Jack.
Aaron
This may be your best post ever, or at least the most information packed. I feel like so many of the things I learned about web marketing over the last 12 years have been pulled together into a convenient outline.
Each section is like a chapter in a book or even a book by itself. I am not sure about trying to view it all together, but this is a GREAT beginning to redefining how you provide a powerful user experience to entice people new to search.
You might consider password protecting the material behind the links and using this as a conversion path to Membership. It is certainly more than $79.00 worth of information.
Hi Jonah
Thanks for the kind feedback. I am trying to feel around for formatting ideas and glad you thought this one works decent.
Aaron
Thinking about the Mind Map, It occurs to me that you could actually use it as the starting point for a (strictly moderated) wiki about online marketing.
That would let you capture the collective wisdom on your friends and associates and add a lot of depth to sections that you haven't written about extensively.
Great idea Jonah.
Wow. I stumbled across your site while I was looking for ways to promote a website. I downloaded mindmap straightaway. What a great way to de-tangle the old neurons eh? I'm a newbie blogger. I was impressed enough to take the time to register to make this comment.
My site is www.dreamlinesnow@blogspot.com
Aaron,
Like others, I'm impressed with the level of detail, but it's an overwhelming amount of detail and I'm an SEO consultant. That said, I can see its usefullness especially when you use it as a tool to explain the steps, tools, best practices for effective SEO.
Keep up the good work.
Bernie
Aaron,
Thank you for publishing MindMap - I will let you know when it goes live
Hi Aaron,
I have been mindmapping for years. I really think that the mind map is a missing link in the next stage of web evolution. I think that collaborative mind maps could be very useful in dealing with controversial subjects with every data point allowing for referencing or disagreement. How much fun a 3d wikipedia would be with integrated video posts on key points of clarification or disagreement.

Words escape me. Simply awesome!!! Thank you for this!
I am impressed. You put a lot of work into this. Thanks
Dear Aaron,
Brilliant stuff. Only problem is that I can not get it to print. The PDF prints out on one page at maybe 1 pt. size. I am TOO old to read that. I have tried printing out the image from the blog but no luck there either.
Ideally I'd like to print it out on multiple sheets, in landscape mode, and stitch them together.
I've also downloaded Freemind and will try to suss that out.
Many Thanks.
Thanks RakeshB
Please let me know how that goes.
Hi Aaron,
I'm, at this moment, attending an Internet Marketing workshop attended by over 650 participants. The information is all too exciting and overwhelming.
Your mindmap lays the tools and services on a simple, clear one page. So I've posted your mindmap on my blog: www.excitingideas.blogspot.com, to be shared by my fellow workshop participants.
Thanks again.
Glad you liked it and thanks for the mention :)
This is a very impressive and useful summary of Internet Marketing. Like a marketing plan, it's so valuable to have it written down. One area that I'd like to see added is Public Relations. I am a publicist and find that it is one of the most overlooked and misunderstood areas of marketing. Otherwise, great job!
Hi Wendy
Fair point and I totally agree. If you look at the archives on SeoBook I often post about how public relations plays a big roll in SEO.
I think my view of the web is somewhat SEO focused and uses a bit much of an SEO perspective, as I consider link marketing and public relations to be similar in many ways. I should probably add offline marketing and public relations in there somewhere.
That's rad, Aaron, thanks for the awesome.
I had trouble printing the .pdf as well so I hacked the image to A4 sized chunks and copied it to Word. It's a bit hard to read but it does print out to just over 3 pages.
Hopefully somebody will come up with a better solution soon. For now, folks can grab a low quality printable version here
Nice map AAron. Funnily, I created one recently too, focused on SEM/SEO (in french, but I am thinkink to translate it) : http://s.billard.free.fr/mindmap/
Seems like you inspired more than a couple people with the mindmap. Check out my
internet/webmaster/seo/marketing mindmap. Mostly links for now but it's a work in progress.
Sweet map. :)
Aaron, unbelievable job! i love the map - respect!
i wanted to download the mm file but the link leads into the void. any possibility to fix that / download it somewhere else?
Thx a lot, really appreciate your work!

Hi Marquee
zip file uploaded here :)

Thx a lot, mate! ; )
Aaron, Thanks for this very detailed mindmap, I downloaded the pdf version to read later. Love your site & plugins for Firefox. I may need to consolidate some of current marketing courses I subscribe to and just go with yours.
Great content, and I totally got where you were coming from on your about page as I hold similar views on some of the topics you referenced. I'm glad I found this site and to know there are genuine, real down to earth people in this industry still.
Thanks,
Jason Counts
