The Stupidity of Post Only Email Marketing Messages

I recently went to a conference in Seattle and stayed at the Sheraton hotel. Within a couple days of leaving they sent me an email reminding me of their marketing messaging: Don't be a Stranger...Because you don’t just stay here. You belong. Yet when I replied to the message with feedback about my stay, it bounced. I don't remember opting into the email list. Putting my name in an email then ignoring me doesn't make you special. If you don't care for feedback it is best not to ask for it. Just in case Sheraton has a great worker who roams the web, here is my feedback:

  • we stayed only 4 nights, yet got charged for 6 days Internet access

  • we rented a movie, got charged for 3
  • our snack tray was never refilled during our stay
  • my wife and I were unable to be online at the same because you guys do not offer wireless and refused to put a second line in the room

We ordered room service and it was delicious, but all the above stuff was brutal. :)

Perhaps your review is the reason why it's a 1 way only channel of communication.

If I sucked I wouldn't want to hear about it either.

Hotels stink nowadays, all $ with no service.

Surprising sheraton's marketing dept dont figure it out - use google alerts to monitor your company "popular" name and always monitor your feedback and direct replies to marketing emails, it's saved us loads of grief to do so - and gotten loyal customers - yet i'm amazed at how some companies just dont monitor the direct reply to emails...

I can't stand people/companies who will email you from an address that you can't respond to.

Email is for correspondence, not announcing your message. That's what radio and tv are for.

This post made me think that blogging is a good form of therapy and stress relief. When your really pissed about something blog about it... except you have to be careful what you say when your angry in a public forum.

If AMEX was used in the process of purchasing your room. Call the chargeback department and you'll get your full refund within 15-30 business days.

It has worked for me when I had a unsatisfactory stay. But then again, mine was a lot more unpleasant than yours.

Funny,
I had a similar experience with Sheraton in Lakewood, CO about 5 years ago.
I spent about 30 min. typing a friendly, but angry letter only to have it bounce.
Looks like they still do not have their act together!

I have a travel wireless router that is a god-send when traveling. Not as much for multiple using it but because I don't have to be sitting at a desk when I'm on the computer.
