Blog Comment Spam to Search Spam to Email Spam
A friend of mine found out about a product that was first seen by them from a spam comment someone left on my site. The product helped automate content generation and syndication, aiming to help new webmasters distribute slightly unique spam across the web. My friend gave that person his email address and they email spam him non-stop. Marketing offers are no better than the marketing method they use to find you.

If anything promises you "great results" in a couple of days, stay far from it (especially if it was comment spam). That is true with pretty much every product you may come upon. People who don't follow that rule are the ones who fall for marketing gimmicks and waste their money on auto-blog software.

I fell for a spammy editorial (auto) generated content site about 3 years ago and lost about 2K. I only generate content myself now.
When you create this real generated content it takes forever but you become very knowledgable in your industry. I created one page that took about 3.5 hours yestarday with all the research involved.
I'd never buy anything from spammers because I want to discourage that method of advertising altogether. If you buy something from someone who uses such shady methods to get clients then you're already getting yourself into a shady situation from the start.
Spam creates hate, distrust and annoyance. More often than not, it comes from companies who want the opposite.
Why is it so difficult!
I hate to not sound compassionate, but if someone buys a product intended to spam the search engines (autogenerated content is spam) and they are then the recipients of spam themselves who is the party that should be blamed?
Aaron - I know you're drowning in email so I will put this here instead. Could you create a new affiliate link so we can link directly to the SEO for firefox plugin, and get credit for anyone who purchases your products? I imagine this would garner you quite a few more links :)

@Puneet - you don't need to give out your email address. Browsing the Web is enough to give spammers the information they need. (IP address, etc).
@Aaron - the idea that you could really learn something from spam is really worth a debate. Especially if we consider blog spam comments. But I suppose you already have an answer for this...
Actually these days, you should also include Forum Spam as it is pretty parallel to a Blog Spam.
Mert, actually I'd say forum spam is even worse, because the tools to combat forum spam haven't kept pace with blog tools (especially if you use phpbb).

I guess you're making decisions about where to go now long term. Will you be SEObook forever or are you going to branch out into affiliates, arbitrage, whatever whatever and ditch this blog?
After all, you can't do everything and something has to give.
I'm guessing your priorities will move elsewhere.
Just set up my new forum last week, and I got my first Spam today.
