New Version of Backlink Analyzer Released
There is a new version of Backlink Analyzer. I added PageRank to it (hopefully that doesn't piss off Matt too bad), made the search term feature more reliable for deep backlink analysis (ie: it shouldn't crash if you are doing an analysis of the keywords in thousands of backlinks), and it also shows what URL extension the links are coming from, as well as the page the links are pointing at if you do a linkdomain search.
Please give it a try (or else).
If you find any problems with it please leave a comment on this post.
If it is not working when you try it here are some things to take note of
- off the start if it does not work you may have to click the preferences button (the one with two check marks on it) to de-check the "use proxy server" option if you do not want to use a proxy
- Norton (or equivalent) may block it
- make sure you set the result limit count to a reasonable number (like 100 or 1000)
- you have to select at least 1 engine to pull link data from
- if you want to enable PageRank, site age, etc. you have to check those features
- you cant get the keyword summary until the tool is done pulling in all the links
This thread will probably be up most of the rest of the weekend as I am reading a killer book and my internet access has been shifty recently. I have replaced the wall jack and all cords. A new router will be in next week. If my internet access is still unreliable that will speed up my decision of when and where to move.

After downloading it, I tried to open it but my browser said WINDOWS CANNOT OPEN THE FILE. Is this tool a stranger to some applications or can be identified by all?
Most of our clients are into link submission so I think if I have this one working for us, I can give a valid proof to them that they are indeed having backlinks.

It is not uncommon for such programs to have false positives. It has happended many times in the past. And then I say many, I really do mean many :-)
There have been times (many...) where such programs have decided that a certain piece of code pattern means "trojan WhateverName" ... Just to find they suddenly are flagging all products made with a specific software development tool as "trojan WhateverName".
Great SEO tool. I experienced a few bugs to, like it saying the link text is "not found" in most cases.
But its easy to use and fast, which makes it much easier for me to check my backlinks. I'm looking forward to the next update.
I cannot seem to save projects nor export any results. i am also unable to delete previously added keywords.. i'm updatin my VM now and try it again..
Just wanted to tell that even after a JAVA update i'm unable to save, export data.
I cant open the bloody proggy! Me Avast goes "mad" it does!
Come on now limey, lets get this bugger crackin mate!!
You blokes try to get it right now I tell ya!
the software will not work with my api key. nothing happens if i want request information for my site.

It drives me crazy when files are in .rar, why not zip it? I don't want to download anything else to extract it... ZIP it (or else).
The link text part doesn't work, it gives me "not found" on all links.
I also noticed the google pagerank thing gave the pagerank of the main page of a site that links to you, but it would make more sense to display the pagerank of the actual page that links to you.
Apart from that it seems like a great tool!
Aaron, everytime I download and try to extract, Norton antivirus finds a trojan and deletes it...
I can't even find the file after I download because I think the file Norton is deleting is your install file.
It often seems to give no results as well, with no error message to indicate why. Sometimes running the query again works, sometimes not.
Using a high number of results (like 500) seems to cause the nop results, bringing that down to 250 seemed to make it work
Analysis of a page within a site gets blank results (instantly)
It's a nice idea but kinda buggy implementation
Hi Aaron,
I also tried dowloading your file and your file is infected with "trojan.zlob"

I hope my laptop isn't fucked now. Does Norton tell you the threat level or something?
I do not put out software with trojans in it. I think some similar link analysis programs give similar warnings as well. Like I said in the post, it does not work well with Norton.
I have also had Microsoft identify one of my sites as a phishing site even though the site had nothing but a search box on it.
I think I am going to ask the developer to comment on some of the feedback directly such that he understands my frustrations when I review the software and so that users get software that works.
Great piece of software but if you have more than 5 links you loose track quickly of what you see.
Probably a different view mode, a hierachical one or one based on site factors like PageRank domain age or number of backlinks would solve this problem.
My english is kind of wacky today, I hope I could express myself clearly enough.
the columns allow you to resort things on the fly...by domain extension, pagerank, page link is pointing at, etc etc etc... just double click on one of the category names
Another feature request: Marking or filtering no follow links. Yahoo for instance shows them along the real ones.
Ahh, much better than the old version. Good job!
I like the new version also and made a german post about the software functions & possibilities in my blog - thx for my new favourite backlink checker ... ;-)
No Aaron... It has nothing to do with "running" your software. The Norton trojab message appears when I try to INSTALL the file. (i.e. clicking on the install .exe file)
Norton would ONLY give this message if there was indeed a trojan in your software. It has nothing to do with Google stating that a virus is on my PC etc.
I think you need to check your files before giving them to users.
I'm an newbie on SEO and this found this tool right now. It is great. Thank you.
Glad you like it. :)
Can you add more results? What about a user guide to the tool?
The search engines limit you to 1,000 results.
I see your latest software video : http://tools.seobook.com/backlink-analyzer/
But I couldn't find any features for pagerank analysis. Did you disable it? I'm using windows 7.
