Flash Designer Marketing Idea...
I still want this blog to primarily be about SEO, but I am going to start posting a bunch more about other web aspects and other marketing ideas I have, because as the algorithms advance those who have great holistic or viral ideas will be the ones who win. Those who chase the algorithms will need to have smarts and resources beyond what the average person has. Almost anyone can be creative and if you tune in to culture the marketing ideas tend to throw themselves at you.
Recently on a hunting expedition Dick Cheney shot a 78 year old man.
I am not a flash designer, but if I were I would love to create a flash game called Hunting With Dick.
If someone does it and does it well they should easily get a PageRank 7, a higher PageRank than this site has. Some source material:
I really would love to see this game. Anyone think I should hold a prize giving contest?
Won't It Piss Some People Off?
Of course it would, but recently a ringtone company created a fake sexual ringing tone site called Pheretones. It spread like wildfire.
"You run the risk in any campaign like this that you might offend somebody," he said. "But even if you offend somebody, it seems to spread the gospel of the campaign."
Conversation is the key to traffic.
Ultimately most people working on the web are going to get squeezed as marketing inefficiencies get taken care of.
Why not create many doorways to your personality so people with similar interests can find you? Why not work for clients that you can be passionate about? Imagine if every new client was your favorite person to work with.
When I interviewed NFFC he stated:
I think the best brands, the best sites have a large portion of their founders personality in them. Never be afraid to be yourself, after all there are 1/2 billion people on the www, not all of them have to agree with you. Concentrate on the ones that share your views, concentrate on making their experience the very best it can be, the rest forget them.
Or to put it another way, the best sites say - this is what we do, this is how we do it, if you don't like it go somewhere else.

cool game Funana!
See Dick Shoot. See Dick uh...
Dick shoot's load into friend face - causing minor heart attack. Load goes straight to the heart.
Hunting with Dick and Jane?
How Dick shoots when Lynne's not around...
Sorry, that was a little crude and offensive - even to me... I guess I can't always save myself from myself.
By strange coincidence I picked up a couple of Flash books this weekend, wanting to learn how to make basic movies and games. Too bad it wasn't much earlier, otherwise I'd give this a shot! I still might, just for kicks.
I'm sure there will be more events worthy of a Flash game!

I've been thinking about this topic for some time now. Where would you find a flash designer to do something like this? I'd be willing to shell out the bucks, as long as I saw a decent return on traffic.
OK, serious now. Really sorry for the earlier comments. Honestly, I asked Aaron to remove them but I think he's punishing me for off topic commical laughter.
All that aside. If you are looking for Flash dev's there's a site with hundreds to talk to inÂterÂview here flash.freelancedesigners.com
It's a directory site but there's pepe's there who do this kind of work. Once you get a good designer, keep them close because the good one's aren't that easy to find. When I say good one's I'm talking about self startÂing, self thinkÂing, creative people that just GET IT.
Hey Aaron
It's strange your posting this, I'm actually putting together a flash game for linkbait at the moment. Client runs a network of paintball venues so it seemed a rather natural choice.
The problem I anticipate is that these things take rather too long to put together for this purpose. We don't mind running over for this client, he is a good friend and we want to learn these skills but I think this will be the issue.
I have one friend who works doing the top end stuff - really amazing multi-level flash games for MTV etc. but they work in terms of several months. I want to see if we can get something good out in a matter of 2-3 weeks! (which made him laugh)
I think it has to be in that kind of timeframe to make the link exchange worthwhile.
I'll let you know though... : -)
Great idea. I went running to register a domain... and I got a nice one. Tonight I won't sleep. I'll try to get it done ASAP. I'm afraid someone must be ahead of me... why didn't I think of this before... Thanks for the great idea again.
About development times, it is true that proper Flash development takes months (best pracices, OOP programming), but the good thing about Flash is that you can get away with quick and dirty stuff quite easily. Creativity goes a long way and some horrible code, as long as you are controlling the right timelines, can make up for an entertaining interactive little piece.
I'm a designer, not a programmer, and I always used to fight with the programmer in my previous job. It would take him months to do what I could do in a day. My code looked horrible and his looked beautiful, but who cares about the code as long as it works. Shortsighted maybe, but hey I'm a designer more concerned about the user experience than what the code looks like. If we were talking about multi-player platform with artificial intelligence engine... then I'd say you are right and it would take months.
Will keep you posted on progress, and lack of sleep.
Okay, here we go Aaron, the flash game is online:
