Traffic Power & Cold Call SEO
A good SEO has enough ideas in their head and enough things to work on to not need to call you. If they are calling you it most likely means that they do not understand the concepts of reverse broadcast networks and they are no good at their job.
I just got a phone call from Traffic Power (read the Traffic Power review).
He saw one of my crap websites from when I first started playing on the web (It is super duper bad). I then told him to try "my other URL." I had him enter my http://www.search-marketing.info into his address bar and then stated if he searched Google or Yahoo! for "search marketing" I would rank #1. If he searched for "search engine marketing" I would be in the top 10 on both.
I then told him that good SEO's have no reason to call people. I told him that I get plenty of phone calls from the web. The power of search and the internet is that my targeted traffic comes to me without me needing to waste my time on Traffic Power cold call garbage.
It's funny how their site does not even come up at #1 for Traffic Power if you search Google for Traffic Power. In fact I am willing to bet this post will rank at #1 for traffic power within a few weeks.
He wished me a nice day and I wished him one too. Would you buy a diamond from a person who cold called you? Would you bet your financial future on a random telemarketer who knew nothing about marketing or your life?
Traffic Power did earn a link from me though. I created the Cold Call SEO category of black hat SEO just for them.
My favorite part about the Traffic Power website is the link to the clients page has an almost nuclear trifoil type looking symbol and says "you have reached this page in error." Indeed being on the Traffic Power client list is an error.

Traffic power is not a spam company, you are all competitors,
I am not a competitor so much as I do not like idiotic high pressure salesmen calling me to try to sell me shit services...and since you called me personally to promote a bad site I know your services must suck.
Sounds like some serious sour grapes going on here. I think you're just jealous that traffic power is actually out there doing something for their clients and you're just trying to sell your books... wonder who's making more clients and probably more money too! hmmm
Hi Boomin
I don't work for too many clients because I chose not to work for too many clients. Usually I would rather create my own ideas vice promote ideas of other people.
Perhaps if you like the Traffic Power business model you should type your phone number into the page and expect me call you at random times throughout the day (or night).
No sour grapes here. Unlike Traffic Power you do not yet see any hate sites made up for me. This is mearly a post based on a phone call. There are entire hate sites devoted to Traffic Power.
The site of mine that Traffic Power called to promote is a joke, and thus I do not think highly of them.
As far as doing stuff for clients I do have happy clients that pay me to promote their sites. Of course I did not call them out of the blue though. Perhaps I should change my ways. What was your number again?
just want to say i have been getting your news letter for 3 months now Just down loaded your seo book (brill, thanks) i have put you on my links page as a must for all owners of web sites.
interested to see what this entry will do for my page rank!!
best regards andrew
"The fact that their site has been banned by the search engines speaks volumes for the Traffic Power site."
Traffic-Power's site is not, nor has it ever been, banned from any search engine. How, other than parroting other uninformed sources, did you arrive at that conclusion?
"you don't see traffic power outranking me for the phrase seo book AND YOU NEVER WILL!"
Gee, do ya think it's just possible that Traffic-Power isn't trying to get better ranking for the phrase "SEO book"? Do you have a point here because as someone else stated you sound like some seriously soured grapes.
"Unlike Traffic Power you do not yet see any hate sites made up for me."
Unlike McDonald's, you don't see hate sites made up for Joe's Hamburger Shack in Godonlyknowswhere Kansas. Additionally, there is one, and only one, "Traffic-Power hate site". The Traffic-power bashing that goes on in the Jimsworld forums is mirrored throughout their affiliates so they hardly rank as TP "hate sites". Also, seeing how 99% of the TP bashing I can find is on competitor's sites I'm not surprised to see you jumping on the bandwagon to try to get some free traffic out of their "bad press" (which you openly admit to above).
"I don't work for too many clients because I chose not to work for too many clients. "
Joe's Hamburger Shack in Godonlyknowswhere Kansas ring a bell? Seriously, how can you even begin to compare yourself to a company like Traffic-Power? Your few verifiable testimonials are getting poor placement and you have a ton of unverifiable testimonials trying to back them up. Where's your client reference list? Traffic-Power has one.
Trying to profit from someone else's bad press and spewing misinformation to fuel it is most certainly more despicable than being cold-called in my book.
oh, by the way... I'm a happy Traffic-Power client.
I appoligize for stating that traffic power has been penalized. All I am is Joe Hamburger Shack.
Perhaps Google has not picked up the Traffic Power site yet or traffic power wants this page to rank above their site on a search for their name on the largest search engine.
Google Search: cache:www.traffic-power.com/ = www.traffic-power.com not listed in Google
Google Search: cache:www.trafficpower.com/ = www.trafficpower.com not listed in Google
Google Search: cache:traffic-power.com/ = Traffic-Power.com not listed in Google.
Google Search: cache:trafficpower.com/ = trafficpower.com not listed in Google.
Speaking of hamburger shacks, one of us is out to lunch. And that one is you TVR.
This is what a site looks like if it is in Google's cache. Google Search: Cache:www.McDonalds.com.
Also the link you used in your signature looked to be a PageRank 2 site. Not a serious linking campaign going on there!
This Traffic Power thread would have never been posted if they didn't call me out of the blue to promote a bad site, but they did, and so I give Traffic Power a big thumbs down.
I just thought anyone should know, This is aninteresting link to a law firm that is getting ready to file a class action against Traffic-Power.com
http://www.girardgibbs.com/traffic-power.html
I was recc. to traffic power by a business associate and boy what a joke after meeting the supposed rep 2 x he was dressed in a t shirt and shorts and we had to go to a public library as he did a scratch pad of their fantastic results crap.$3,000 was the amount they wanted, the other rep called me the next day and even more of a joke was I tried to get on their site per his instructions and guess waht NO SITE!!!!
not on yahoo not on google all as i was on the phone with their rep.
I could type a book about this scam but honestly people if you have a business would,nt you want the advertising business to at least be professional and offer you a business card.
DON'T GET SCAMMED!!!!
I saw three companies in my industry that ranked on the first page of Google for my chosen keywords. After some research I found they were all created by Traffic Power using black hat spam techniques.
The sites were eventually banned from Google, but they did no doubt reap many rewards in the several months they had a top listing.
Do they have a right to cry about lost traffic, considering all the traffic they had in the first place was obtained by devious means?
again another Traffic Power testimonial without any URLs to back it up. Not even an industry either.
How did you find out those sites were promoted by Traffic Power?
Most good SEO firms which use aggressive techniques make it hard to find out who is behind marketing them. To put it more bluntly, if I wanted to create completely aggressive shady sites I would ensure the average webmaster could not track it back to me. IMHO that is sorta sloppy on Traffic Power if that was easy information for you to find.
Since Traffic Power's site appears to be banned in Google any footprints leading to their site are probably a bad thing through the eyes of Google.
You get what you pay for. If they did not do any research, and hired Traffic Power after a cold call they kinda deserve what they got that. Having said that, when I was called by a Traffic Power rep there was no mention that I would have my site aggressively promoted only to be quickly banned.
How can you discount Traffic Power's clients sites getting banned when you:
This is VERY funny (and informative) stuff.
I love that Traffic Power gets their own category in your black hat directory because they're THAT bad. ;)
In my opinion, all trafficpower.com is is just a bunch of cheep everyday crooks. They should all be in jail.
Someone from their company cold called me today. From the get go, talking about the "Top 14 Search Engines" I had to stop him right there. What top 14, man I was curious. Sure, all the names he read off (once he found his script of the 10 lessor players) were real engines, but hardly very relevant.
Before long I mentioned some common SEO terms and he had no idea what I was talking about. He was new he told me, OK, that's fine. No big deal, but I wondered why they set him loose on the phone with so little training? (I was later told it was his first day.) Even someone that knew nothing about SEO (clearly their targets) might want to know how they do, what they claim they can do.
How about doorway pages and cloaking etc. Finally he wanted me to speak to his manager. OK, I'm game, I suppose. After the first guy saying "yes" 3 times to my asking if they use page cloaking, this guy said no. Ok, well, call it what you want, but if you have javascript turned on, then essentially, it IS a form of page cloaking. The visitor does NOT see the same thing that the search engines see, plain and simple. They use some form of javascript redirect he told me.
Finally he asked about my sites, (this is what I do for a living folks), and started questioning me about how many clients I have and how many top rankings they have. So I gave him one site (of course my most extreme example, but why hold back) that sells mostly books and I said that about 2,000 items had top 10 and often #1 rankings in Google.
He spit out numbers of how many clients they have etc. and "why didn't I have more?" Well, because I'm very busy already, I do things properly, I value my free time, and I do not want any employees, so it's just me. I get business from search engines and mostly from referrals. I have not placed an ad in oh, about 5 years? I don't need to do that... or cold call people.
Their site has a PR 0. They break the rules of the search engines and certainly would endanger the rankings of their clients with their methods. By the way, where did they get my phone number from? It wasn't randomly dialed folks, they hit Google and sought out suckers. Why they called me, I have no idea. Clearly, I already had a top ranking for that client.. and many others.
In the end, he said "you're not interested in our services." I said, no, but I told the first guy that already. A moment later, 'click' he hung up on me.
Hey nice talking to you too. I think he was worried I was going to "steal his ideas" or something? It's all about on page content and links. If you do it right you don't have to play games or worry too much about things changing with results from month to month.
Well, look what I just found in Google - June 25, 2004
"OnMouseOver JavaScript Page Redirects No Longer a Spam Problem for Google" See: http://www.seroundtable.com/archives/000596.html He he, the comments below the story even mention Traffic Power and the horror stories too.
Recent Traffic Power feedback I got from a prospective SEO client.
"We recently got screwed over by a SEO scam called traffic-power that used "doorway pages" to allegedly get us traffic. They didn't get us traffic, and damn near got us blacklisted."
More information can be found here...

traffic-power.com called me today at 4:34am in the morning!!! What the F*@k ! They do not even check the time zones of who they are calling? I line in Hawaii .. Can anything be done to stop these people?!?!
I am about to file a law suit for calling my cellular phone in violation of the TCPA. I would like to hear the experiences of others in their conversations. Specifically, did they ever send you a copy of their do-not-call list policy when requested, did they know what a DNC list was? Did they, at the beginning of the call, give a number or mailing address as well as state their full name? Please email me if you have info.
Traffic-power.com called my cell phone on the first day and then another salesperson called my business line the next day. They have repeated their calls when I wasn't in and left repeated messages on my cell phone!
I also asked them how they do what they do and it has to do with making pages on there sites somewhere for only $5,000 a year for 20 keywords. Now you pay 5k and at the end if you don't renew with them, you lose those links that drive traffic and they probably sell it to your competitor to boot!!!!
LOL. How can they not rank for "trafficpower" when they are traffic power. That is pathetic. Nice of you to link at them Aaron.
I just signed on with Traffic-Power.com for 1 year. Did I make a mistake? Can you guys give me some advice?
"I just signed on with Traffic-Power.com for 1 year. Did I make a mistake?"
I am not certain that I can tell you what to do with Traffic Power after you already signed on. I can only speak of my experiences with Traffic Power and let others post their experiences. I can tell you that I am none to impressed with Traffic Power based on the site of mine that they wanted to promote and that Traffic Power did 0 research to find out who I am.
Big thumbs down to Traffic Power for me.
ps: thanks again for the call Traffic Power, you send me a ton of referals each day for when people search Yahoo! or Google for Traffic Power. Traffic Power must cold call a bunch of people to send me close to 100 visitors a week...
these guys kill me. I have begun a few sites, all in diff. industries, and already I am getting cold calls for their service. I have heard of them being banned from G and Yahoo, so I never even bothered to take these guys seriously on the phone.
One guy was asking me if I wanted to be #1 on the serps for "xyz"....I blantanly asked him how many people are even searching that term, and he had NO clue. I mean c'mon now atleast have the overture search tool open when you are on the phone or make something up.
Black Hat SEO gives a blackeye to this industry, period.
Traffic power are
[moderator note: I actually had to edit this post because it was offensive even for my standards, and I do not want to have a lawsuit filed against me!]
I recently got scammed by traffic power. 1. My site is now banned from Google. 2. they send me reports from search engines nobody uses. 3. the sales reps are hostile and have harassed me 4. They threatened to sell the scam phantom site they have created to my competitors if I do not renew.
What should i do?!!
These guys should be in jail. They told me that if I weren't 100% satisfied, to pay by credit card. That way, if their technology didn't work, I could do a charge back and get my money back. I believed them. Unfortunately, their technology does not work. My site never got listed on Google. I did a charge back. The credit card company reversed charges. Later, Traffic Power contested the charge back. Their defense was I charged it on my personal credit card. These guys contested the charge saying that this was a business-to-business transaction and therefor not protected by the credit card company. I'm out $3000. These guys should be in jail!!!!
I got a cold call from Traffic-Power.com telling me that thay had reduced their price from $1000 to just $500 and that I would be top ten on google.
After wasting 15 mins of my time, he started asking me for the cell phone number of my company's owner. Get real DUDE!
The high pressure salesman showed me some of their clients. One of them was on top of Google with the search for the word "milk" it was a comic book, very strange.
I think most of you remember Vin Deisel in "Boiler Room" that is what this guy reminds me of.
"You will be top ten in Google, I guarantee it!"
Yeah right, whatever!
Nothing but thumbs down on 1p.com!! I have been with them for almost a year and the doorway pages they posted do not show up at all in the search engines! I have been paying another firm meanwhile for my site 1/20th the cost and they have, by far, outperformed Traffic Power. In my dealings with them, I have found them to be highly unethical and numerous empty promises were made only to take my money and run with it. I have learned my lesson, but there are plenty of other suckers out there... how can they be stopped??
I worked for Traffic Power for a short time. I got scared after reading all the forums talking shit about the company and quit. However, after some seroius thought, this is how I see it...
Only other SEO companies are complaining about traffic power. Why would another SEO company claim to have gotten screwed by them?
Traffic Power must be doing something right. They do have top placements, and they have credible references. When Google attacked them, anyone who asked for their money back, got it. And they didn't take away their worker's wages as a result. They renovated their approach, and became more effective. They pay their employees well, and have a great atmosphere to work in.
I got scared, sure. But I think they're getting 90% of their crappy comments from losers who can't perform. Do you guys have that same performance in the sack too?
Not true. From emails I have been sent I can tell you that many people complain about them. Are you not awake? Do you pay attention to the world around you? Look at this site: Traffic Power Sucks. There is no commercial SEO relationship on Traffic Power Sucks...simply a site which states the facts as seen by an unhappy customer who did not get their money back.
I asked the owners of Traffic Power Sucks if I could advertise on their site and they said no.
The SEO companies are not the people getting screwed. It is all the random webmasters who get cold called and buy their services. Traffic Power cold called me. I did not buy their services, thus I did not get screwed by Traffic Power.
When you say "They do have top placements," why is it that when I search Google for Traffic Power I can't find the Traffic Power site? They can't even rank for their own name.
Why would anyone hire an SEO firm that can't even rank for their own name?
"they have credible references." ... like? I have yet to see one top ranking site which had an "SEO placement by Traffic Power" emblem on their website.
Of course linking into banned websites such as Traffic Power will hurt ones rankings so of course they would not want to have their clients get banned the first day. Traffic Power wants to cash the SEO service payment checks first.
Not true. The people at Traffic Power Sucks did not get their money back.
The whole concept of "Google attacking Traffic Power" goes to show that Traffic Power obviously does not work within Google's stated guidelines, and that perhaps Traffic Power was in fact responsible for many many sites getting banned from Google.
One wonders why you left your job at Traffic Power if you really feel this way?
Perhaps you should do research before hiring or working for any SEO company. I would need to shower at least 6 times a day if I worked for a company as dirty as Traffic Power.
Funny that. Me outranking Traffic Power for the Google search phrase Traffic Power is an indication of them outperforming me?
Bet you a dollar they will never outrank me for the phrase "SEO Book."
That line (once again strangely focused on anatomy instead of SEO) just gave away your true identity. May as well place a real name and a legit email on your fake posts there. Everyone knows who you are.
I do not know where you are getting your information from. The results from the services of Traffic-Power are phenominal. Web traffic and business have increased several fold. If you are just posting information from competing companies then you are doing a great disservice to the consumer.
Man, these guys are all sales idiots that are selling a worthless service. the fat ass owner matt marlon hires drug addicts and junkies to sling this piece of shit worthless service to the victums. he hands out car keys from NSXs, corvettes and mercedes to the "top" crooked thieves in that place. one employee, or (half assed MIS idiot) there got keys to a brand new tacoma for going to jail for that fat ass on some other scam in the past. what a real winner.
"take the money" "take the money" is what the true slogan is there.
I post my information based on the fact that they cold called me offering to sell their services to me for a site that is complete garbage that I would no work on if somebody wanted me to.
I use that site as a "catcher of fraudsters and hucksters" and traffic power called me.
The fact that their site has been banned by the search engines speaks volumes for the Traffic Power site.
I get my traffic power information from my server logs and the fact that traffic power called me to promote a horrible website.
I let anyone post their traffic power information on this page. Oddly enough this page is more relevant to traffic power in the eyes of google than their own site is.
perhaps a memeber of the traffic power team would care to explain to me why this page outranks the traffic power site for the term traffic power.
you don't see traffic power outranking me for the phrase seo book AND YOU NEVER WILL!
perhaps you would care to share what site of yours traffic power is working on so people can believe you are a real person. then maybe we will call you at 430 in the morning to get your traffic power testimonial.
I realize that this issue may be long over and dead by now. I apologize if I am posting anything that is simply out-dated. However, even with that being said, I know that especially when people FIRST start out online, you do a TON of researching, reading, and never know what type of advertisement may appear in front of you. As tremendously valuable and necessary as certain information and resources can be in order to build and successfully grow an online business, I have found an equal number of resources to have a negative effect. There are TONS of businesses out there just like traffic-power.com and I would not be in the least bit surprised if they are still operating the exact same business under different business names, domain names, and hiding behind as many barriers as possible to avoid being exposed again. Therefore, I hope that even though this subject and topic may be a little old, it is still just as important, if not even more important for those who are especially just starting out to know what to look out for and why. As I am sure most people would agree, there are hundreds, if not thousands of other websites and "businesses" out there that operate on even lower ethical and quality standards than traffic power. Remember, if something sounds truly way way too good to be true, it probably is too good. Sometimes, if not all the time, you need to trust your instincts. If you aren't sure about it or can't quite differentiate a legitimate product or service from another, your BEST bet is to simply do a little research online before providing any credit card information and/or committing to anything.
In most cases, you will be able to find enough information online about a particular product or service to determine whether it provides the value it claims. However, keep in mind that there are also times where people will post completely biased reviews in order to earn affiliate commissions. I have found that the best way to determine whether a review of a product and/or service is biased or not is to take a good look at any available archives of a particular blog or website. If every topic or product/service "review" or post are all hyped up like promotions and each one you read talks about the product/service as if it is the "best, the answer, etc." and basically continues to write claiming that each product/service is better than the next, you may want to at very least, check some additional resources. Look for blogs, forums, and other open discussion areas that discuss the product/service you are looking for more feedback about.
There is nothing wrong with affiliate marketing and nothing wrong with someone making a commission when they are truly recommending products or services that they have used and benefited from to their readers. Affiliate Marketing is a great way to earn some money online and/or with your business. However, it can be abused and at times, people will very blindly promote products/services without any true knowledge about their overall quality. I saw some BIG NAME "gurus" even fall into this once or twice. Anyone that received e-mails regarding the "Pipeline Profits" System probably knows what I am talking about. I didn't hold it against every big name marketer who promoted the service in an e-mail by opting out of newsletters, but I did see many that did. I also did not purchase the product/service, which I know was a High-Ticket item.
The bottom line is that you need to be aware. It doesn't mean you can't trust anyone or that you shouldn't take someone's recommendation seriously. However, it does mean that even the top Internet Marketers can get lazy from time to time and/or simply fall into the trap of trusting someone else they thought they COULD trust. So look for those who provide real feedback and breakdown what a product entails (obviously they wont giveaway everything), but look for the websites, blogs, newsletters, etc. that also look out for you and your best interest as their reader, subscriber, and/or customer. This means that sometimes they are telling you to save your money or just simply explaining their HONEST opinion/experience, even if it were negative and allowing YOU to make the best decision overall.
Sorry for such a rant regarding this topic, but it is one that I have had on my mind a LOT recently and one I wanted to share. I believe that this site, seobook.com is one of the "good guys" out there and as far as I have seen, provides as much HONEST and TRUTHFUL information as possible, positive and negative in order to allow his readers to make the best decisions and provide them with true experiences and opinions, regardless of whether it will mean more or less affiliate commissions for him/them.
One last thing...to put an ABSOLUTE SILENCE to the traffic power issue, I suggest going to read what Matt Cutts (A Software Engineer and HEAD of GOOGLE'S WebSpam Team) posted regarding this company, their website, etc.
http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/confirming-a-penalty/
Anyone who can read that post DIRECTLY written by Google's own Head of WebSpam Team and still can post even ONE positive thing about this company, let alone justify their actions or "claim" they have received nothing but "great" service from "T-P" is either a VERY greedy affiliate with no regard for delivering quality to anyone OR Most Likely has a personal agenda/relationship with the company directly. I hope that people will find this post and consider some of the things said regarding this company and other scams similar to the one this company pulled, before making any quick and potentially expensive and time-consuming decisions. Thank you for any time you may have taken to read this, as it is appreciated.

Dude, what were you thinking?
No one can rely on other people or corporations to turn the other cheek when it comes to insults on blogs, however slight they might be. We have free speech but it won't stop the lawsuits or the nasty feedback.
Case in point. A few months ago, I was spammed by a radio dj from the midwest. He was trying to set up an interview with my company CEO about a story we were involved with. Great airtime. Not a targeted market but a cool idea. Why not?
But, while I read his pitch, I picked up on something that led me to believe he wanted us to pay HIM for the interview. Turned out he rents airtime from a syndicated network and has the right to charge his guests.
The emails back and forth after that were a bit foul and unprofessional because I really told him what I thought of his pitch and he wasn't too happy.
But I never blogged his name, stations or company name. I knew the power of our corporate blog would bury his sites in the rankings and everyone would be able to read what I wrote about him.
I'm glad I didn't blog about that situation, I'd probably be sitting next to you outside the courthouse one day.
Just like grandma used to say, if you can't say anything nice about anyone, don't say anything at all. Unless you have the balls and the money to back it up.
Good luck.
hmm first post I ever seen on here and it bring backs bad memories...Traffic Power RIP..I had a site sandboxed using this back in my newbish days. Well great to be here and thanks for the honest post.
